REPORT: INDUCTION COURSE

Alhamdulillah, on Sunday 18th January 2009, Titian Wahyu Club had successfully conducted the Induction Course for management boards at Rebutia Camp, Gombak from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. All of 16 management boards had participated in this programme with the help of 2 committees, but unfortunately 1 of the management board could not attend this induction. The main objectives of this programme are to meet up all of the new line-ups in a different way and place, to get closer with all of them and to crystallize their job scopes and duties in the club.

They were required to gather at the main staircase at 7 a.m, where there were already 3 cars waiting for us. When all of the participants and committees arrived, we departed to Rebutia Camp and arrived there at 8 a.m. Before started the programme, we had our Nasi Lemak and Tea o for breakfast.

The induction started at 830a.m. with the 1st session ice breaking and mind setting. In the 1st session which was ta’ruf, all were asked to introduce themselves to others and anyone can ask anything that they wanted to know about them. All participants were expected to know each other because after this they will work together as a team.

Session 2 presentation on job scope started at 930 a.m. Each bureau namely E-Ukhuwwah, Social Development, Outreach and Emas Mentoring Bureau had to send a representative to present and explain about their job scopes. Before this, they were asked to prepare all the tasks in ‘mahjung’ paper and come prepared to save time. Each bureau seemed to understand very clearly about their job scopes which are important in order to settle their duties.

After all bureaus presented their job scopes, session 3 continued at 11 a.m. The management skills on the procedures and formalities on organizing programme had been presented by the President of the club. Each bureau had been given all copies on reports, forms and documents on organizing programme. The requirements to organize a programme had been explained starting from before, during the programme and after the programme ends. Some questions had been asked by the participants and managed to be answered. As the management boards, it is a must for them to know all about the procedures and formalities to take it into practice in the club’s programmes. During this session, our advisor Dr. Noraini Mohd Arifin came with her family to visit us. We all had a short ta’ruf with her and shared about her experiences and advices for us.

Management skills session ended at 1130 a.m. While waiting for lunch at 1 p.m., we decided to have a game. The participants had been divided into 3 groups. The game was ‘regu’. In this game, all the group members had to guest what another member trying to gesture or demonstrate with his physical act not by words. The questions will come from other groups consists of various categories such as things, songs and films. Who can guest will be given marks based on groups.

We stop at 1 p.m. for lunch and Zuhr prayer. At 230 p.m., we continued with the next session which was the presentation on SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) analysis, POA (plan of action) and BSC (balance score card) by each bureau. By examining their strengths and weaknesses, they have to come out with a plan of action in order to overcome it. Each bureau also has to determine their objectives and targets they want to achieve during this tenure using the BSC. In this session, many good ideas and suggestions had been discussed.

One hour and quarter pass that, the presentation ended. Next agenda was for booth preparation. On 19th-21st January, Titian Wahyu Club will open 2 booths at KENMS and HS for new members’ recruitments. Therefore, all bureaus need to prepare something such as pictures and general information about their bureaus using the manila card or anything else. These work as a promotion to each bureau to attract more students to join their bureaus. During the hour, they finished their task. We stopped for Asr prayer at 5 p.m.

After performing Asr prayer, we had a free activity. All the brothers when to swim at the nearest river. While for the sisters, they preferred to have a flying fox activity with the fee of RM3 per person. At 630 p.m., we had our dinner before went back to UIA at 7 p.m.

Overall, this induction had successfully achieved its objectives. However, there were still so many things which can be improved and need to be observed by all from time to time. We hope that after coming back from this induction, all the participants will be able to put into practice all of what which had been taught and explained during the programme. A very good understanding on the duties and to maintain a good and professional relationship among the management boards are so important to ensure the efficiency of the club’s management. May Allah S.W.T. reward us for what we have done in putting all the efforts to make this programme as a success.
